Popular Fort Langley Bakery to Open New location at Latimer Village

Blacksmith Bakery to open new location at Latimer Village in North Langley.

The popular artisan bakeshop will be the delicious jewel of the new Latimer Village retail high street at Vesta Properties’ master planned community, Latimer Heights. “We are excited to announce that Latimer Village will be home to Blacksmith Bakery’s newest location. They are the exact type of tenant we envisioned for Latimer Village high street – local, boutique, and delicious!” says Kent Sillars, President of Vesta Properties.

The café will be located in the south-east quadrant of the development with a patio facing out onto a courtyard and surrounding greenspace, including a natural water feature. This will provide a new meeting place for the community, including the estimated 5,000+ new residents who will call the Latimer Heights community home upon completion.

Blacksmith Bakery was founded in 2014 by Chef Stephan Schigas, a Langley native who has worked around the world in renowned restaurants and bakeries, and his wife, Bernice Farah. Since then, Blacksmith has attracted a loyal following for their rich, buttery and decadent treats seldom found in the suburbs of Canada.

Blacksmith Bakery will be complemented by a selection of retailers and services in the 34,000+ square foot retail high street. “These will include other quick-service food establishments and sit-down dining – fire-baked Neapolitan pizza and sushi will be available” hints George Richmond of Frontline Real Estate Services, who is managing the retail leasing on behalf of Vesta Properties. “Despite the pandemic, which has hit retail harder than other commercial real estate sectors, the response we’ve received has been very positive” he adds, “retailers have confidence in the market and economy in the long term so projects like Latimer Village, which won’t be completed for a year or more, are still receiving plenty of attention and offers.”

Blacksmith’s flagship café is located in Fort Langley’s Reid Block building at 9190 Church Street. The building is named after Charles Reid, who established Reid Blacksmith Shop and Garage on the site circa 1910 and gives both the building and the bakery their names. The second location, an express, was opened just this summer at the new Langley YNJ airport terminal building. Both locations are open 7 days a week from 7 am – 5 pm, be sure to visit to get a taste of what’s coming to Latimer Village!
